The project will feature 44 2.3-MW machines from General Electric. Minnkota is on track to source 35% of its total electricity from wind by early 2017, according to President and CEO Mac McLennan. The 107.5-megawatt Thunder Spirit wind farm in North Dakota has begun operations, according to Nordex, which installed 43 of its N100/2500 turbines at the site. The project was developed by Allete Clean Energy and is owned by Montana Dakota Utilities. Nordex said that the government's decision to extend the wind energy Production Tax Credit has created "good opportunities" in the industry. If approved, Invenergy would increase the project's total capacity from 300 megawatts to 449 MW. The project is expected to feature between 130 and 150 turbines.
