AWEA's second annual financing workshop, to be held September 28-29 at the New York Marriott Financial Center in New York City, N.Y., is aimed at educating potential investors about the risks involved with developing a wind power project and showing how those risks can be managed. Some of the most experienced practitioners in the field are scheduled to make presentations during this two-day workshop.

Topics on the first day include the state of federal and state policy initiatives, wind risk, technical issues, and selling green tags. The second day focuses more specifically on financing issues such as offtaker agreements, turbine warranties, debt issues, and equity structure and modeling. The workshop will conclude with a panel discussion, which will use a case approach to explore the various tax driven structures currently being used in wind transactions today. The session is designed for those that want to gain a better understanding of how to balance the inherent risks and benefits to meet the sometimes conflicting needs of the projects equity and debt participants.
