Taking Care of Business

The dog days of summer are particularly tough for industrial energy users, whose operational costs go through the roof with even the smallest increase in energy needs -- not to mention oil prices. Thankfully, the Alliance to Save Energy recently convened 80 energy experts to identify the best strategies for improving the overall efficiency of manufacturing operations. The result is the just-published World-Class Energy Assessments, a go-to guide on conducting effective energy assessments. Amazingly, it seems many companies fail to capitalize on the efficiency opportunities available to them; ASE estimates that facilities typically implement only 30% to 40% of the energy-saving recommendations that result from these assessments. (Find even more best practices here.)

For a backgrounder on the business case for energy efficiency, read our very own GreenBiz Essential. Looking for something a little more in-depth? Try the summer study program from the American Council for an Energy-Efficiency Economy. This year’s course is titled “Energy Efficiency in Buildings: Less is More: En Route to Zero Energy Buildings.”
