AWEA Action Alert: Senate to Vote on PTC extension tomorrow
Contact your Senators and Urge them to Cosponsor S. 2821, the Clean Energy Stimulus Act, which extends the PTC by one year
Introduced by Senators Cantwell and Ensign, the Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act of 2008 extends the Production Tax Credit (PTC) by one year. The bill also contains additional renewable energy and energy efficiency tax credits. It does not include controversial "offsets" to pay the costs of the extension that have, in the past, made it difficult to get the 60 votes needed in the Senate to pass the PTC extension. This bill could come up for a vote this week, perhaps as early as tomorrow, in the U.S. Senate. It may be offered as an amendment to pending Housing legislation.
The PTC is set to expire at the end of 2008. To maintain existing jobs and to continue growing thousands of new jobs, it is vital that Congress act quickly to extend the PTC early in 2008. Should we enter late spring without a PTC extension the impacts on wind industry investment will escalate dramatically as the financial community responds to growing uncertainty as to the future availability of the PTC.
Please contact your Senators and urge them to cosponsor S. 2821.
