GLUTEN-FREE DESSERTS I'm Rubber, You're Gluten Although specialty foods can be harder to find, a little gluten-free gluttony with better-for-the-planet options is sa-wheat! Sticking to wheat-free desserts? Bounce over to the natural foods store and pick up some delicious, organic, gluten-free desserts to rub in your allergy's face.
- Not mocking the taste. To the more than 2 million Americans who have wheat allergies: you don't have to settle for less deliciousness.
- Not bullying your health. Our celiac-friendly (celiac disease = you can't tolerate wheat) picks contain fewer additives and preservatives than your average baked goodies.
- Telling off CO2. Researchers found that sustainably farmed soil absorbs up to 28% more climate-change-causing CO2 than conventionally farmed soil.
Even those of us who have no problem eating wheat devoured the Pamela's cookies somebody left in the office kitchen.
- Pamela's Products Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chunk Cookies - cures choc cravings, and moist for a gluten-free cookie; made with rice flour ($4/9 cookies). We also like Pam's brownie mix, and the vanilla cake mix makes great cupcakes ($6 each).
- Simply Organic Carrot Cake Mix - rice-flour-based carrot cake mix with a little spice ($5).
- Garuda International Vegan Cookies - seven wholesome, tasty flavors made with pinto bean flour, including a yummy peanut butter version. Note: Only a few of the ingredients are organic, but it donates 5% to eco-charities ($3).
- Soyatoo Soy Whip - not a baked good per se, but this vegan soy-based whipped "cream" goes great with fresh fruit ($7).
- Gluten-Free Girl and Gluten-Free Goddess - tons of great recipes from gluten-free-chefs-turned-bloggers.
