Taking Care of Business

By Joel Makower

It's green building week, as untold thousands converge on Phoenix for the annual Greenbuild conference and expo. We'll be there in force: Associate Editor Leslie Guevarra and I will be session moderators, publisher Pete May and VP sales Alan Robinson will be working the aisles, and GreenerBuildings.com Executive Editor Rob Watson will be -- well, doing his godfather-of-green-building thing. Stay tuned to GreenerBuildings.com for coverage of sessions and the general mood.

In the run-up to Greenbuild, we published last week our 2009 Green Building Market & Impact Report, an annual assessment, written by Watson, of how, and how much, green building is affecting air, water, land, and people. Last week, we hosted a webcast at which Watson presented the findings (along with Ed Lonergan, president and CEO of JohnsonDiversey, which sponsored the report and announced its own news on the call). More than 1,000 people from 50-plus countries attended the live event or its archived recording. You're welcome to do so, too. (It's free.)

Meanwhile, the rest of the green business world isn't exactly asleep. Announcements from Nike, Johnson Controls, Cadbury, and Sprint made news last week, along with the usual assortment of studies, trend analyses, and other developments.

Amid it all, we're gearing up for Copenhagen where, as you likely know, much of the world will be focused next month for the COP15, the United Nations Climate Change Conference. We'll be there covering the business angle: how companies are preparing for, engaging with, or otherwise thinking about Copenhagen, and how it is affecting their strategy and plans.

In addition to articles from our own correspondents and columnists, we'd love to hear from you. If you plan to be in Copenhagen (or even if you're planning on staying home) and are willing to offer your experiences and insights, we'd welcome your contributions to these pages -- before, during, and after the event. If you're interested, please send us a note.

Professional Services Directory: Have you checked GreenBiz.com's directory of green business consultants and service providers lately? You'll find more than 250 companies listed, searchable by more than a dozen specialties, from recruiting to recycling to renewable energy. A great resource if you're seeking -- or offering -- help.
