Given the possibility that crude oil could be washing up the entire East Coast from BP & Halliburton's joint marine apocalypse, it may be wise to investigate closure of the canal that links the Atlantic to the Great Lakes.
It would be wise to be ready in case that step becomes necessary, even if it never does. It's not worth risking the drinking water for untold millions of North Americans on both sides of the Canadian border, even for all the trade that comes through.
We need to be ready to move that commerce to the railways.
