Chicago Climate Action Plan Turns 2!

Chicago Climate Action Plan logo
September 18th is a very special day in the history of the City of  Chicago. Two years ago on this day, Mayor Richard M. Daley launched the Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP) - the city's blueprint for a more sustainable future. This dynamic plan charts the course of how Chicago will achieve a 20% reduction below 1990 levels in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 and adapt to changes in our climate that are already affecting us. The CCAP includes five strategies and 35 actions. The success of the CCAP requires the commitment of not only government, but every individual and business in the city.

To commemorate CCAPs second anniversary, the city and its partners recently its progress report. The two year progress report reveals that:
  • Residential retrofits have grown twelve-fold
  • Public transit ridership has grown significantly over the years, and
  • More than four million square feet of green roofs and 9,000 trees have been added.
