One key to stopping global warming

Hi Daniel,

If we really want to stop global warming, we have to think big.

Over the past few weeks, thousands of you have taken action to fight global warming by defending the Clean Air Act and pushing the Obama administration to make our cars even more fuel-efficient.

Strong clean cars rules alone will reduce America's annual global warming emissions by 465 million tons in 2030 -- but the real key to stopping global warming is getting off oil permanently.

We're launching a new campaign to do just that, with a comprehensive plan to end our oil addiction. Will you donate today to support our work?

America's 800-million-gallon-per-day oil habit is one of the largest contributors to global warming pollution. And that's not all -- our oil dependence pollutes our air and our waters, costs our economy over a million jobs and billions of dollars every day, and enriches authoritarian states like Iran and Saudi Arabia.

It doesn't have to be this way -- we have the capacity to reduce our oil consumption by 50 percent in the next 20 years, putting us on the path to ending our oil addiction within this generation.

That's why we're building a movement to get Illinois -- and America -- off oil for good. We'll assemble a broad-based coalition pushing for action at the state, local and national levels to fight global warming -- by investing in electric cars, building high-speed rail and first-class public transit systems across the country, and developing walkable, sustainable communities.

Over the next few months we'll start our campaign to kick our oil habit by releasing detailed reports showing how Illinois can cut its oil consumption in half. Will you contribute today to help us launch our effort?

We need to raise $5,000 to research and release a report focused on how to get Illinois off oil. Click the link below to contribute $35, $50 or more today.

And thanks, as always, for making it all possible.
