That's the most basic principle of economic activism, and the organizing principle behind Green America's work. When you refuse to invest in fossil fuels, you're working to take back our energy system. When you shift your spending away from GMO-laden processed food and toward local, organic options, you're working to take back our food system. We also need to take back our finance system. Energy, food, and finance: the three central systems to the economy. These are the systems that must change if we want a just and sustainable economy that works for all. If we didn't know it already, the 2008 economic downturn showed clearly that the Wall Street mega-banks aren't putting our dollars to work in the world wisely. That's why Green America's Break Up With Your Mega-Bank campaign is working to get more and more people to move their money into banks and credit unions with a community development mission. We've been focused on this system-changing priority for more than a decade; together we've moved more than $3 billion out of Wall Street banks and into community-focused financial institutions.
