Report: Renewables could provide 100% of US electricity within 35 years
The US could source 100% of its electricity needs from renewables by 2050, according to Stanford. The report said that under its model, land-based wind and offshore wind would provide 30.9% and 19.1% of the nation's electricity, respectively. Solar, hydroelectric, geothermal and hydro power would supply the remaining capacity. The report added that the plan would create 2,815,850 40-year operation jobs, and 2,285,816 40-year construction jobs. CleanTechnica (1/7)

BOEM: Feds will develop S.C. offshore area if investors are interested
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said it will not move forward with a proposal to develop South Carolina's offshore space if there is no interest from investors. Utilities SCE&G and Duke Energy declined to participate in the project. BOEM has approved about 1,200 nautical square miles off the coast of the state for offshore development. Rudd: UK will need new policies to meet renewables, climate goals
The UK will need to modify its policies in order to meet its 2020 renewable energy and climate goals, according to Energy Secretary Amber Rudd. The European wind industry has criticized Rudd and the UK government for its decision to scale back support for land-based wind. "The UK is some way from meeting its 2020 targets and needs to increase its share of renewables deployment over the next five years to make up the ground," said European Wind Energy Association spokesman Oliver Joy. "This means fostering investment in wind energy -- both onshore and offshore," he added. ReNews.biz (U.K.) (1/7)
