Editorial: Va. leaders must have talks on renewable energy goals The time has come for leaders in Virginia to have tough talks about the state's long-term renewable energy goals, writes the editorial board of the Daily Press. This was highlighted by the Energy Department's decision to pull funding for Dominion Virginia Power's offshore pilot project off the coast of the state. "If we are going to get serious about renewable energy in Virginia -- as serious as some of our neighboring states already are -- we need to think about ways to encourage a broad range of actors to set up solar and wind facilities, and not just leave it to monopoly electric utilities," it writes. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has launched a task force in California with the goal of driving offshore wind development. The Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force will work with state and local groups to find new opportunities for offshore wind off the state's coast.
