EIA: Renewables could surpass coal generation in US by 2029
Electricity generated by renewables in the US could surpass that of coal by 2029 if the Clean Power Plan is implemented, according to the Energy Information Administration. The report said that without the CPP, renewable energy generation in the US is still on track to increase 3.9% annually between 2015 and 2030.

BlackRock to acquire 50% stake in 211-MW project in Texas
GE Energy Financial Services has agreed to sell its 50% stake in the Grandview wind farm in Texas to BlackRock Real Assets. The wind farm, which has a total capacity of 211 megawatts, is jointly owned by E.ON Climate and Renewables.

The North Dakota Public Service Commission has granted NextEra Energy permission to build a 150-megawatt wind farm and transmission line in Stark County. The Brady Wind 1 project could feature up to 87 General Electric turbines.

Pattern to take over former SunEdison project in Maine
Pattern Energy has agreed to purchase the rights to develop the King Pine wind farm in Maine. The project, which was previously proposed by SunEdison, could feature 174 turbines for a total capacity of 600 megawatts.

Siemens, Gamesa to take advantage of shift toward renewables

By merging their operations, Gamesa and Siemens are preparing to take advantage of a "paradigm shift toward sustainable power generation," said Siemens President and CEO Joe Kaeser. The deal will "enhance the opportunities to boost sustainable energy generation in a more cost effective and reliable way," said Kaeser.

Report: Australia's shift to renewables could generate 28,000 jobs
Australia's goal to source 50% of its total electricity from renewables by 2030 could result in the creation of 28,000 jobs, according to research firm EY and the Australian Climate Council. "This research highlights that tailored plans for winding down coal‐fired power plants are a much better way to support coal communities rather than allowing the market to dictate coal closures," said Climate Council CEO Amanda McKenzie.

Citizens Campaign for the Environment and other environmental groups in New York are applauding the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's decision to hold an offshore wind leasing round in the state.
