AWEA looks ahead to next Congress
The American Wind Energy Association, the Sierra Club and the Solar Energy Industries Association are calling on Congress to reconcile the House and Senate energy bills to pass a comprehensive package before the end of the year, according to this analysis. AWEA Senior Director of Legislative Affairs Aaron Severn added that AWEA's efforts this fall would be "educational and preparing for opportunities that may come up next year, and playing defense on the issues that still could come up before the end of the year."

The US is poised for a rapid period of offshore wind development following the launch of Deepwater Wind's Block Island offshore wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island, according to this analysis. Chairman Bryan Martin said it was logical for Deepwater to choose a relatively small project for its first given the challenges faced by the 130-turbine Cape Wind project, adding that the firm's next offshore wind farm will be significantly larger.

Administration considers rule to fast-track wind farms on public land
The Obama administration is preparing to issue a new rule that would make it easier for developers to break ground on wind farms pre-approved for public lands, say observers. Only 15 of 46 wind and solar projects approved by the federal government for public lands since 2009 have become operational.

Ariz. regulator calls for state to double wind, solar requirements for utilities
The Arizona Corporation Commission has introduced a plan that, if approved, would require the state's utilities to source 30% of their total electricity from renewables like wind and solar by 2030. American offshore wind power is here
Deepwater Wind completed construction on the country's first offshore wind farm on Friday, proving to the world that when it comes to offshore wind power, the US is open for business. While the completion of construction is a historic milestone, it must not be seen as a successful one-off, but rather as the dawn of an entirely new US energy industry. Read more.
