Okla., Ark. divided over Clean Line transmission project
Clean Line Energy's proposed Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project has created a divide between Oklahoma and Arkansas. The line is designed to move power from wind farms in Oklahoma through Arkansas to Tennessee, but Arkansas officials say it wouldn't deliver the same energy benefits to their state as it would to other states.

FERC: US added nearly 5.2 GW wind, solar capacity in 2016
The US added almost 5.2 gigawatts of installed wind and solar capacity through Aug. 31 this year, up from 4.9 GW during the same period in 2015, according to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The report said that in August alone, the US added 408 megawatts of installed wind capacity.

EDF EN Mexico wins rights to 342 MW wind, solar projects in Mexico
EDF EN Mexico has received approval to build a pair of wind and solar projects in Mexico that will have a combined capacity of 342 megawatts, according to the company. "We are pleased to take this important step in our expansion plan for the Mexican renewable energy market and to be an active player in the framework of Mexico's energy reform," EDF Country Manager Gerardo Perez Guerra said.

Rentel secures $1.2B in financing for offshore wind farm
A consortium of firms known as Rentel has secured about $1.2 billion in financing to break ground on a 309-megawatt offshore wind farm off the coast of Belgium, said the group. Rentel expects to begin construction on the 42-turbine project this spring.

Carbon Trust, nonprofit sign MoU to pursue US offshore wind development
UK-based Carbon Trust and the Business Network for Offshore Wind have signed a memorandum of understanding in which they will partner to drive growth throughout the US offshore wind industry, according to the duo. "This is a strong partnership, bringing together the Network's local expertise with Carbon Trust's strong track record of achieving cost reduction in offshore wind, which is well timed to support the US's recently publicized National Offshore Wind Strategy," said Carbon Trust Director of Innovation Jan Matthiesen.

Danish firms gather in Boston to discuss US offshore wind supply chain
A variety of Danish firms met in Boston last week to discuss the US offshore wind industry and its potential supply chain, say observers. The Consulate General of Denmark in Chicago organized the event, which it called the US Offshore Wind Academy.

Cape Verde increases renewables goal to 100% by 2020
Cape Verde, an island nation off the coast of Africa, has increased its goal for renewable energy generation from 50% by 2020 to 100% by 2020, said Energy Minister Anildo Costa. "We want to have a state of the art renewable energy sector that serves as a reference point for the entire country," he said.

EU triggers Paris climate accord with ratification
The 28 nations in the EU ratified the Paris climate accord today, giving the deal enough support to trigger its implementation. "We have the policies and tools to meet our targets, steer the global clean energy transition and modernize our economy," EU Climate and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete said, adding that the deal would go into effect the first week of November.
