The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center is looking for waterfront sites that, through private investment, could be developed to support the state's future offshore wind industry, according to MassCEC. The agency is accepting proposals from engineers interested in surveying the potential sites.

US wind industry trends toward taller turbines, says Apex manager
Some wind developers are gradually transitioning to taller turbines to reach stronger, steadier winds, according to Apex Clean Energy Development Manager Taylor Quarles. The Federal Aviation Administration said most of the projects it has under review would use 500-foot turbines, but that several, including Apex's Lighthouse project in New York, seek to use machines over 600 feet tall.

Tradewind would build second wind farm in N.D. County
The Williams County, N.D., Planning and Zoning Board has recommended that Tradewind Energy be granted approval to erect six meteorological towers near the site of its Lindahl project. Tradewind, which plans to take its proposal to the Williams County Commission, said it hopes to build a second wind farm in the area after completing a feasibility study.

Terna Energy secures financing for Texas wind project

Green renewable energy firm Terna Energy has secured financing for its $250 million, 155.4-megawatt Fluvanna 1 project in Texas, according to the company. The project, which will use Gamesa machines, will likely begin operations late next year.

EDP wins right to build 25-MW offshore floating wind farm in Portugal
The Council of Ministers in Portugal has granted EDP Renovaveis the right to build a 25-megawatt offshore floating wind farm in Viana do Castelo, according to the company. The Windfloat Atlantic is expected to begin operations in 2018.

Nordex to provide ABO unit with turbines for wind farm in Finland
Nordex has won a contract to supply a subsidiary of ABO Wind with turbines for a 27-megawatt wind farm in Finland, according to the companies. ABO Wind Oy said the project, which it hopes to connect to the grid next fall, would use nine N131/3000 cold-climate turbines from Nordex.

The Lincoln County, S.D., Commission's decision to pass a three-quarters-of-a-mile setback distance for turbines may deter wind development in the South Dakota county, said Brian Minish, a board member for Dakota Power Community Wind. Dakota Power said last week that it hopes to build a 400-megawatt project in the area with Xcel Energy.
