Groups sue BOEM over N.Y. offshore wind area
Four groups have filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management over its offshore wind development area off the coast of New York. The groups argue that BOEM failed to properly investigate the potential impact of offshore wind development on wildlife and the fishing industry.

New York Power Authority finishes substation for renewables
The New York Power Authority has finished building a substation in Franklin County, N.Y., that will help carry wind energy from EDP Renewables North America's 77.7-megawatt Jericho Rise project into the New York City area, according to the grid operator.

Energy-based carbon emissions could hit 25-year low in 2016
Carbon emissions from energy sources in the US are on track to reach a 25-year low in 2016, according to the Energy Department. The use of renewable energy sources, including wind, increased in the first half of the year.

Kan. county OKs zoning change for proposed wind project
The Lyon County Commission in Kansas voted to approve a zoning change that will enable an RES Americas wind energy project to move forward. "Going forward RES is now more free to market the electricity from the project," said company official Jeff Sabins.

Swedish government rejects Blekinge Offshore wind farm
The government of Sweden has rejected an offshore wind farm that would have featured up to 700 turbines and a total capacity of about 2.5 gigawatts, according to Blekinge Offshore. The government said that the project would have interfered with military operations.
