States with renewable energy programs and strong clean energy industries are becoming hotspots for new economic investments, especially from retail and technology companies with clean energy agendas, according to the US Retail Industry Leaders Association and the Information Technology Industry Council. The report said demand for clean energy from US corporations would likely grow to 60 gigawatts by 2025.

Global clean energy spending fell 18% to $287.5B in 2016, says report
Global spending on clean energy declined 18% to $287.5 billion in 2016 due to declines in renewable energy technology prices and a reduction in major projects in large markets, such as Japan and China, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. "After years of record-breaking investment driven by some of the world's most generous feed-in tariffs, China and Japan are cutting back on building new large-scale projects and shifting towards digesting the capacity they have already put in place," said BNEF's Justin Wu.

Wyo. bill would penalize utilities for using wind, solar
Six lawmakers in Wyoming have proposed a bill that would penalize state utilities for failing to only use six pre-approved energy sources, which do not include wind and solar. Powder River Basin Resource Council Attorney Shannon Anderson called the bill unsound, adding that "it goes against long-standing precedent to choose least-cost resources, and it ignores the reality of a multistate grid."
