AWEA, energy groups urge FERC to adopt Energy Dept. recommendationsThe American Wind Energy Association and other groups are calling on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to adopt the changes recommended in the Energy Department's electric grid reliability report. AWEA Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs Amy Farrell said the wind industry welcomes using interstate electricity markets to resolve reliability concerns, but cautioned FERC against moving too quickly on new regulations. The Examiner (Washington, D.C.) (8/28)Opinion: Land-based, offshore wind are the best way to curb emissionsA combination of land-based and offshore wind is the best way to naturally curb carbon dioxide emissions, writes Jim Neu. He argues that the Eugene Water & Electric Board's proposal to sell two of its wind farms is short-sighted and urges it to instead begin preparing for the phase out of natural gas.The Register-Guard (Eugene, Ore.)
