AWEA refutes anti-wind report
A report by GateHouse Media citing negative health effects for people living near wind turbine installations "flies in the face of science," writes blogger Brendan DeMelle. DeMelle writes that the report was based entirely on anecdotal evidence and that the American Wind Energy Association cites 25 scientific reviews to refute the GateHouse report.

Senate and House of Representatives negotiators have agreed on a final rewrite of the US tax code that maintains the wind energy Production Tax Credit phaseout and prevents the Base Erosion Anti-Abuse Tax from destroying the tax equity finance market for renewables, say congressional Republicans. A final vote is expected next week.

NERC: Renewables, gas on track to replace retiring coal-burning generation
Renewables and natural gas are poised to fill the capacity gaps left by retiring coal-burning power plants over the next 10 years, according to the North American Electric Reliability Corp. Observers say the report's findings cast doubt on the need for Energy Secretary Rick Perry's proposed rulemaking favoring nuclear and coal.

CPP replacement rule slated for Oct.
The Trump administration is working on a replacement rule for the Clean Power Plan and plans to release a final version in October. The EPA would look at individual stationary sites rather than across sites, as the Obama-era Clean Power Plan does.

Slanted GateHouse Media story omits most people's experience of life near wind farms
Context matters. And that's exactly what is lacking in a recent report by GateHouse Media that amplifies the complaints of a small number of the millions of Americans living near wind farms, while downplaying the vast majority who welcome the benefits of a new cash crop for rural America. And it perpetuates baseless claims, in most cases without offering any evidence, which is as bad or worse of a journalistic practice than selectivity.
