NRDC: Renewables continue to grow under Trump
Wind, solar and hydroelectric energy continued their slow upward trajectory in 2017, accounting for 16% of the nation's total electrical production, up from 13% in 2016, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. Energy analyst Amanda Levin said even though the Trump administration's agenda doesn't support the industry, state and corporations continue to invest in and promote clean energy.

Analysis: Renewable energy M&A growth to continue in 2018
The same trends that encouraged renewable energy mergers and acquisitions activity in 2017 are expected to continue in 2018, especially as more investors enter the market and tech firms and other companies continue to embrace clean energy, writes Frank Palladino, director of investment bank CohnReznick Capital. He notes the pending retirement of various coal, nuclear and natural gas projects would also motivate firms to acquire more renewable energy assets.

US doesn't need CPP to meet climate goals, report shows
The US has already slashed emissions from the power generation sector from 2.7 billion tons to about 1.9 billion tons over the past five to eight years, putting the country ahead of schedule in terms of meeting the Clean Power Plan's goals, researchers at Carnegie Mellon University says. Professor Paul Fischbeck added that market forces are already driving a shift to a clean energy economy without regulations like the CPP.
