Report: Most voters in 5 swing states back 100% renewables
The majority of voters in swing states Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado and Michigan support a switch to 100% renewables based on sources such as wind and solar, according to a poll by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research for the Sierra Club. "The overarching message is that from the Colorado Rockies to the coast of Virginia, the public and the United States is ready for 100% clean, renewable energy," said Sierra Club Ready for 100 Director Jodie Van Horn.

Wind is central to Gulf Power's future, says spokesperson
Florida utility Gulf Power entered the wind energy market nearly two years ago and has since seen progress using the energy source -- which now accounts for 11% of its grid -- to curb greenhouse gas emissions, said spokesperson Kimberly Blair. "By using a balanced energy mix that includes smart renewable energy like Kingfisher Wind Farm, our customers can count on us for their energy needs," she said.

Study: Colo. communities could switch to net-zero energy at a low expense
A Siemens subsidiary has found that Colorado's Platte River Power Authority could shift to net-zero carbon generation by 2030 for just an 8% cost premium for 2018 to 2050. The actual cost premium of a net-zero carbon generation portfolio could be even lower than the study indicated, because it used conservative estimates of decreases in pricing for wind and other renewables, write David Labrador, James Mandel and Coreina Chan.

IEA: Current policies fall short of UN's energy-related goals
The UN 2030 sustainable development goals hinge on universal access to energy and expanding renewables to account for at least 20% of all energy consumption worldwide, but current and planned policies aren't enough to reach those goals, said International Energy Agency Executive Director Fatih Birol. "While wind and solar deployment has accelerated, thanks to falling costs and policy support in many parts of the world, this goal is still out of reach under current policies," he said.

Mass. candidate advocates clean energy manufacturing
Massachusetts holds huge potential for offshore wind development and its 3rd Congressional District is uniquely positioned to become a leader in clean energy manufacturing for turbines and other products, said Rufus Gifford, the former US ambassador to Denmark who is vying for a district seat this year. He added that the district's manufacturing history and proximity to Boston, among other benefits, make it a perfect fit for clean energy firms.

There's never been a better time to invest in wind power
Here's a talking point that never gets old -- American wind power is 67% cheaper than it was in 2009. That means in many parts of the country, wind is now the cheapest source of new electric generating capacity, and it's cost-competitive in many more. These cost reductions come from a variety of new efficiencies. Read more.
