Opinion: Update Md.'s grid to accommodate clean energy growth
The administration of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and the Maryland Public Service Commission must come to a decision that ultimately modernizes the state's grid and enables it to meet its 25% by 2020 renewables goal, writes Chelsea Henderson. "With the market continually reducing the price of renewables, especially given the state's climate pollution reduction commitments, a modernized grid only makes sense," she writes.

Ecobulk investigates recycling for bulky composites, such as turbine blades
European organization Ecobulk is working on methods for recycling bulky composite materials, such as the thermoset fiber-reinforced plastics used in wind turbine blades. "Recycling composites is a great obstacle not only to the circular economy but also to more widespread use of these materials that otherwise can have great environmental benefits," says Conenor's Markku Vilkki, who is working on an Ecobulk project.

Operational excellence solutions from AWEA's OMS conference
How would you answer the question, "How can the wind industry achieve O&M excellence?" AWEA and sponsor Uptake asked that question of industry leaders at the AWEA Wind Project O&M and Safety Conference in February. During a Leadership Forum on operational excellence held the day before the conference, participants were split into two groups -- one of managers and directors and one of executives. Attendees then completed a series of exercises to outline the industry's biggest barriers to O&M excellence and brainstormed how we might overcome them. Read more.
