Bay State Wind contracts EEW to build Mass. manufacturing hub
Bay State Wind partners Orsted and Eversource have chosen German firm EEW to build a manufacturing facility in Massachusetts that will produce offshore wind components for their 800-megawatt project proposed for the state's coast, said the companies. "The US market, with Massachusetts and the Northeast at the forefront, has long been ripe for robust development of offshore wind energy," said EEW Managing Partner Christoph Schorge.

Calif. utility taps consortium to develop floating offshore wind farm
A consortium featuring EDP Renewables and four other firms has partnered with local utility Redwood Coast Energy Authority to potentially develop a floating offshore wind farm off the coast of California. RCEA Director of Business Development Lori Biondini said the group expects to file an unsolicited lease application in May or June.

Vestas confirms 4 turbine supply deals, one service agreement in US
Vestas has recently signed agreements to supply four projects in the US with turbines, plus additional deals renewing service and maintenance contracts, according to the company. One of the orders comes from Terra-Gen, which will use Vestas' V117-3.45-megawatt series optimized to 3.6 MW for its 159-MW Voyager II project in California.

Aeolus to invest in fleet to serve US offshore wind
Operations and maintenance company Aeolus Energy has introduced a new investment plan that will help it build a "Jones Act-compliant construction fleet" for the US offshore wind industry. CEO Elia Golfin said the initial offshore wind projects are underway in the US, but that the nation lacks skilled workers and a construction fleet to support the industry.

Boston firms taps Greenbyte for US wind, solar O&M services
Boston-based Longroad Energy has signed a deal with Swedish firm Greenbyte to use the latter's plant monitoring services for its 1.2-gigawatt portfolio of wind and solar sites in the US, according to the companies. "Greenbyte is a key part of Longroad's strategy to deliver industry-leading O&M and asset management service to project owners," said Longroad Director of Operations Jeremy Law.

Texas data center to power 100% of its operations with wind
QTS Realty Trust has signed a 10-year deal with Citi to power 100% of the electricity used at its data center in Irvin, Texas, with wind energy, according to the companies. The deal uses renewable energy credits instead of a power purchase agreement and will source the power from the 200-megawatt Flat Top wind farm in Texas.

Portugal's renewable energy surpassed total consumption during March
Portugal's renewable power plants produced 4,812 gigawatt hours of power in March, with 42% of that total coming from wind, according to the Portuguese Association of Renewable Energy. The production level equaled 103.6% of the nation's total electricity consumption for the month.

Maine House rejects proposal to increase wind regulations
The Maine House has rejected a proposal from Gov. Paul LePage that would limit the wind farms that can take advantage of the state's streamlined permitting process to just those in eastern Aroostook County. The proposal, which has yet to hit the state Senate floor, would also require projects within 70 miles of important scenic resources to undergo visual impact reviews.
