AWEA: Okla. wind generating capacity jumped nearly 13% in 2017
Oklahoma was one of four states to source at least 30% of its electricity needs from wind in 2017, during which it increased its installed wind capacity 850 megawatts, or nearly 13%, according to the American Wind Energy Association. Wind Coalition Oklahoma Director Mark Yates touted the state's impressive wind assets and corresponding ability to attract Fortune 500 companies.

Berkeley lab, AWEA, other partners debut wind-tracking database
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the American Wind Energy Association, US Geological Survey and other partners have launched a database that will track and map the nation's wind turbines. "Wind power's rapid growth as part of the diverse US electricity mix can be seen and better understood with this wind turbine data set," said AWEA Senior Director of Research and Analytics John Hensley.

Wells Fargo to invest $200B in renewables, clean energy projects
Wells Fargo will invest $200 billion in renewables and clean energy projects between now and 2030, said President and CEO Tim Sloan. To date, the company has invested $6 billion in US wind and solar projects.

    E.ON launches 228-MW wind farm in Texas county
    E.ON held a ceremony celebrating the launch of its 76-turbine, 228-megawatt Bruenning's Breeze Wind Farm in Willacy County, Texas, on Thursday, making its 22nd wind farm built nationwide. "We're very happy to continue our relationship with Willacy County and excited by the continued community support from the surrounding south Texas area," said Chief Operating Officer North America Silvia Ortin.

    Capital Power plans 99-MW wind farm in N.D.
    Capital Power is planning a 99-megawatt wind farm in McHenry County, N.D., that will feature 29 Vestas V126 3.45-megawatt machines, said ‎Media Relations Manager Mike Sheehan. The company said the New Frontier Wind project is expected to begin operations in December.

    Intuit debuts Purely Green wind procurement program
    Intuit has introduced a program dubbed Purely Green, giving the company's residential and commercial customers in Texas the option to procure wind energy from EDP Renewables' Lone Star Wind Farm, said the company. "The goal is to create a market signal to say there is a demand for wind farms," said Senior Sustainability Program Manager Sean Kinghorn, noting Intuit hopes to expand the program to other states.

    Walmart closer to 50% renewables by 2025 goal with new deals

    Walmart said it will double its renewable energy usage in the US with new power purchase agreements with wind farms owned by Geronimo Energy and Engie, and plans to add 130 on-site solar installations. The company, which aims to source 50% of its global electricity needs from renewables by 2025, said the wind agreements would offset almost all of the power used by its Walmart stores, Sam's Clubs and distribution centers in seven states.

    FERC order calls for greater transparency in interconnections
    The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued an order Thursday adopting 10 of 14 changes to its proposed 2016 rulemaking for generator interconnections. The update, which comes in response to an American Wind Energy Association complaint, will require greater transparency and efficiency among transmission providers.

    Vineyard Wind hopes to complete permitting by mid-2019, says exec
    Vineyard Wind is working with the Cape Cod Commission and other federal, state and local regulatory agencies to secure permits for its proposed offshore wind farm in Massachusetts, said Vice President of Permitting Affairs Rachel Pachter. She added that the company hopes to complete the process by mid-2019.

    Ill. county increases setback requirements for wind turbines
    
DeWitt County, Ill., approved stronger setback requirements for wind turbines on Thursday, but did not set new standards for height. Trade Winds Energy Development Director Tom Swierczewski praised the outcome, noting the company was happy to comply with a 2,000-foot setback rule, but not a 499-foot maximum turbine height.
