La. regulators sign off on $4.5B Wind Catcher project
The Louisiana Public Service Commission has approved a settlement agreement with Southwestern Electric Power to advance the 2,000-megawatt, $4.5 billion Wind Catcher Energy Connection project, which has also secured regulatory approval in Arkansas. Regulators in Texas and Oklahoma must still sign off on the project.

BNEF: World is poised to hit 50% renewables by 2050
Renewables could meet an estimated 50% of the world's total electricity needs by 2050, says Bloomberg New Energy Finance, citing falling renewable energy costs and other factors. By that year, it says, wind costs could fall as much as 58%.

MidAmerican Energy hits 50% renewables goal in Iowa
MidAmerican Energy officially sources 50.8% of its total electricity in Iowa from renewables, confirmed the Iowa Utilities Board on Tuesday. "We have now crossed the 50-yard line and we're moving closer to the goal, which is the vision we announced in 2016 to ultimately provide 100% renewable energy for our customers," said President and CEO Adam Wright.

EDF Renewables unloads 50% stake in 2 wind farms
EDF Renewables has sold Dutch pension group PGGM Infrastructure Fund a 50% interest in a portfolio of renewables project that include the 200-megawatt Red Pine wind farm in Minnesota and the 154-MW Rock Falls wind farm in Oklahoma. "This portfolio of wind and solar projects provides an attractive investment opportunity in the US renewable energy sector, well suited for a large pension fund," said Executive Vice President of Strategy Raphael Declercq.

Opinion: Wind energy is one of Minn.'s most important natural resources
Minnesota's wind farms are an incredible asset with the ability to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in rural communities, contrary to a June 5 op-ed published in The Post-Bulletin, writes Charlie Gerten of Inver Grove Heights. "The innovation of modern wind turbines will move us past the burning of fossil fuels and are already a part of the energy revolution," he writes.

Mass. seeks more environmental data for offshore wind project
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs has asked Vineyard Wind to submit a supplemental environmental impact report that will provide additional information about its 800-megawatt, $2 billion offshore wind farm under development in the state. Vineyard Chief Development Officer Erich Stephens praised the opportunity to offer more data, noting, "We believe the best outcome is a project shaped through listening and communicating."

    The EU has officially adopted a new goal to source 32% of its total electricity needs from renewables by 2030. Each member country will be required to draft a plan that will ultimately allow the bloc to curb its greenhouse gas emissions 40% below 1990 levels by the same year, per the Paris climate accord.

    France signs off on 6 offshore wind farms
    France approved six offshore wind farms on Wednesday, but says it will offer less financial support than previously suggested. "We will bring about renewable energy more quickly and less expensively: the projects are confirmed, their public subsidy is reduced by 40 percent," tweeted French President Emmanuel Macron.
