BNEF analyst: Tariffs on Chinese imports will have little impact on wind
Chinese-imported turbines account for less than 2% of all the machines added in the US since 2010, indicating the Trump administration's tariffs will have little impact on the industry, says Bloomberg New Energy Finance analyst Stephen Munro. "It may prove to be a glancing blow as there are non-Chinese alternatives available," he notes.

NextEra secures PPA for an additional 300-MW with AT&T
AT&T has signed another power purchase agreement with NextEra Energy Resources, this time to acquire 300 megawatts worth of wind energy from two new projects under developing in Texas. The companies have also introduced the AT&T Wind Energy Scholarship through which they will encourage students to pursue wind technician careers at Texas State Technical College.

Xcel Energy, American Electric Power and other utilities continue to plan nuclear and coal-burning power plant closures, despite the Trump administration's effort to prop of the declining energy source, writes Ari Natter. AEP Chairman Nicholas Akins says, "When you look at the future and the investment potential and the risk associated with these investments by far the best approach is with natural gas, renewables and in fact technology."

Xcel Energy taps Vestas for 442-MW worth of turbines
Vestas has won a contract to supply Xcel Energy with 442 megawatts worth of its V116 2-MW and V110 2-MW turbines, according to the companies. Xcel said the project is part of its a 12-wind farm effort to add 3.68 gigawatts to its portfolio.

NYSERDA unveils $18.5M offshore wind R&D program
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has unveiled an $18.5 million research and development initiative that will seek to lower the cost of offshore wind development in the US. "Building on successful European models, the consortium is engaging private sector support that will allow it to chart a path to financial self-sufficiency, so it can continue its work when federal support ends," it said.

Opinion: Conservative support for clean energy is growing nationwide
Seventy-nine percent of Republican and 90% of Democratic voters in North Carolina are in favor of clean energy, indicating that support for such energy sources continues to grow regardless of political affiliation, writes Conservatives for Clean Energy President and CEO Mark Fleming, citing a CCE poll. Mass. Senate advances bill to strengthen RPS, offshore wind
The Massachusetts Senate on Thursday voted for a bill to increase the state's renewable portfolio standard. The bill would also authorize a procurement recommendation of up to 5,000 megawatts of aggregate offshore wind capacity by the end of 2035.

G-20 ministers: Invest more in renewable energy development
Ministers from the G-20 forum met in Argentina on Friday and issued a joint statement calling for "increased investment and financing in renewable energy," while noting that "fossil fuels still play a major role" in the energy landscape. German Director of Energy Policy Thorsten Herdan added that the nations "have to get out of coal" in order to reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

Renewables gain support among Wis. conservative lawmakers, groups
The Wisconsin Conservative Energy Forum, the Conservative Energy Network and Wisconsin state Sen. Patrick Testin all attended the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair in Custer, Wis., over the weekend and used the opportunity to express their support for renewables. "As this technology becomes more affordable, we're gonna have the ability to become less dependent on foreign oil and other fossil fuels," said Testin, a Republican lawmaker.
