AWEA kicks off 2nd-annual American Wind Week
The American Wind Energy Association has launched its second-annual American Wind Week event to raise awareness about wind energy in the US. The Atlantic County Utilities Authority in New Jersey will celebrate by inviting visitors to tour a wastewater plant and corresponding wind and solar assets.

BNEF: Global installed wind, solar capacity surpasses 1 TW
The world has more than 1 terawatt of installed wind and solar capacity under operation and that figure is expected to double by mid-2023, says Bloomberg New Energy Finance. The report says that figure will rise to 1.1 TW by the end of 2018.

Opinion: Increased RPS would strengthen Md. economy
Maryland's Renewable Portfolio Standard has been integral to its success shifting to a clean energy economy and the state only stands to benefit from increasing it via the Maryland Clean Energy Jobs Act, contrary to misinformation spread by various groups, writes Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition Executive Director Bruce Burcat. "MCEJA is a practical and cost-effective approach to adding more wind and solar that will grow the state's economy," he writes.

Texas wind farm begins generating power for General Mills, GM
Southern Power has launched its 148-megawatt Cactus Flats project in Concho County, Texas, which will supply General Mills and General Motors, respectively, with wind energy via renewable energy credits. "As we are seeing an increase in renewable energy adoption in the U.S., we saw an opportunity for our commerce to support and enable the greening of the grid," notes General Mills Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer John Church.

Dominion Energy looks to erect 2 offshore wind turbines in Va.
Dominion Energy has filed an application with the Virginia State Corporation Commission to build a two-turbine offshore wind pilot project off the coast of Virginia Beach. Dominion, which is partnering with Orsted on the project, says it would provide insight about the area's potential for future offshore wind development.

Report: Renewables can help Minn. meet emissions targets
Minnesota can achieve its goal to slash emissions 80% below 2005 levels by 2050 by installing more renewables like wind and solar and through the use of electric vehicles, according to the Knight Foundation. The report notes that the shift would save ratepayers money on electricity, but may also require the construction of new transmission infrastructure.
