NextEra breaks ground on 43-turbine project in Iowa
NextEra Energy Resources has begun building the 43-turbine, $155 million Heartland Divide Wind Energy Center in Iowa. The project, which has a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Central Iowa Power Cooperative, is expected to infuse $40 million into Audubon County and Guthrie County over a 30-year period.

Rep. Arrington recognized with wind-leadership award
Tri Global Energy has awarded Rep. Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, with the 2018 Wind Leadership Award for his help advancing wind development in Texas. "Harnessing the power of wind in west Texas has not only provided good jobs for rural America and helped power our state's economy, but it has broadened and diversified our energy production, which will support our nation's energy independence for future," says Arrington.

N.J. BPU taps team to develop offshore wind strategy
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has assembled a team led by engineering group Ramboll to develop a blueprint for the state's emerging offshore wind sector. The state has set a goal to have 3.5 gigawatts of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030.

150-MW wind farm takes shape in Wyo.
Roundhouse Renewable Energy is expected to complete the planning process for its proposed 150-megawatt wind farm of the same name this fall. The project is proposed for Wyoming, immediately north of the Colorado border, and would carry electricity into Colorado via a 12-mile transmission line.

RES Americas could launch Kan. wind farm in 2019
RES Americas hopes to break ground on a 200-megawatt farm in Lyon and Osage Counties, Kan., this year and may begin operations by the end of 2019, says Development Manager Michael Hutson. Hutson says the firm is currently negotiating payments with the counties.

Research: Wind farms don't harm nearby property values
Wind farms do not affect the value of nearby properties, writes Center for Rural Affairs Policy Associate Lu Nelsen, citing a recent Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory study. The report analyzed 50,000 residential properties in nine states.

The Board of Supervisors for Santa Barbara County, Calif., has contracted a firm to complete an additional environmental impact report for a wind farm proposed by Strauss Wind. If approved, the project would feature up to 30 turbines.

N.J. panel to gather input on goal of 100% renewable energy by 2050
The New Jersey Energy Master Plan Committee will host several September events to gather stakeholders' feedback for meeting the state's 100% by 2050 renewables goal. "Being responsible stewards of the environment is not a campaign promise; it's a moral, philosophical and economic obligation," says Gov. Phil Murphy.
