PJM study confirms no grid reliability emergency
The closure of coal-burning power plants, extreme weather events and other scenarios aren't currently threatening grid reliability, contrary to concerns previously raised by the Trump administration, reports PJM Interconnection. "PJM is right to focus on market-based solutions for future challenges, but they should not presuppose a fuel supply solution when other options such as transmission enhancement exist," said American Wind Energy Association Senior Vice President for Government and Public Affairs Amy Farrell. "PJM should focus on valuing grid services that keep the lights on, letting any and all technologies compete to provide those services in the market. This will give consumers what they really care about, a reliable and resilient electricity supply at the lowest possible cost."

Working a wind farm: The right way to communicate via radio
We all know that communication is essential to a strong relationship. This is certainly true when working on a wind farm. Mich. residents divided over 130-MW wind farm
Residents in Michigan's Upper Peninsula are divided over the Summit Lake Wind Project, a 130-megawatt wind farm from Renewable Energy Systems that some locals say would infuse the region with critical tax revenue. RES selected the proposed parcel of land for its strong wind resources, "available capacity on the existing electrical grid, its distance from residences, and for its compatible use of timberland," spokesperson Alicia Rivera says.

Opinion: Calif. S.B. 100 will drive land-based wind growth
California Senate Bill 100 lifts the state's renewable portfolio standard from 50% to 60% by 2030 and will create new growth prospects for land-based wind in the process, write California Wind Energy Association Executive Director Nancy Rader and Cox, Castle & Nicholson attorney Anne Mudge. "In the near term, S.B.100 will create opportunities for repowering California's 1980s vintage wind projects, a limited number of in-state greenfield sites and out-of-state projects that can deliver directly to California's grid," they add.
