Opinion: Federal, state governments are driving offshore wind
State-level renewable energy incentives and the Trump administration's pledge to support offshore wind as part of its "energy dominance" strategy are helping offshore wind growth in the US, as seen by last week's auction in Massachusetts, writes Silvio Marcacci, communications director at Energy Innovation. "Offshore wind is uniquely qualified to reinvigorate economically depressed coastal communities that previously depended upon fishing or shipping industries which have declined over time," he writes.

Opinion: Renewables, decarbonization go hand in hand for utilities
Many utilities are transitioning to low-cost renewables -- and doing so without government mandates or political incentives -- because they make sense economically and help curb carbon emissions in the process, write Amory Lovins and Mark Dyson of the Rocky Mountain Institute. In Colorado, for example, 41 utilities embrace safe, reliable energy policies that generally include renewables, they write.
