Report: 2018 a record year for corporate renewable energy deals
Corporate deals to acquire output from renewables soared in 2018, resulting in contracts for a record-breaking 6.43 gigawatts of capacity, according to the Business Renewables Center at the Rocky Mountain Institute. "The record number of companies successfully pursuing renewable energy this year sends a clear signal that environmental sustainability is a serious priority for business leaders across the economy," says RMI CEO Jules Kortenhorst.

Ecolab, Clearway Energy sign VPPA for wind farm in Texas
Clearway Energy has arranged a virtual power purchase agreement with Ecolab for 100 megawatts of output from its 419-MW Mesquite Star project in Fisher County, Texas. Clearway hopes to break ground on the site in the first half of next year.

N.J. BPU votes against 25-MW offshore wind proposal
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities has denied the EDF Renewables and Fishermen's Energy joint venture Nautilus Offshore Wind proposal to build a 25-megawatt, three-turbine project off the coast. BPU President Joseph Fiordaliso said the costs outweigh the benefits.

Allete Clean Energy to update 50-MW Ore. wind farm
Allete Clean Energy has confirmed plans to upgrade a 50-megawatt project in Oregon, the refurbishment of which will qualify for the wind energy Production Tax Credit. "This investment ensures the Condon facility will continue to deliver its sustainable energy supply and add value to the Condon community well into the future," the company said.

Neb. county updates sound standard for some landowners
The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners in Nebraska updated the county's sound rules for wind turbines on Tuesday, raising the limit for landowners that have a lease agreement with a project. NextEra Energy Resources says the change may allow it to move forward with a project of up to 50 turbines.

Climate measure with 100% renewables advances in D.C.
The Council of the District of Columbia unanimously approved a bill Tuesday that addresses climate change on multiple fronts, including a goal to power the district with 100% renewable energy by 2032. Councilmember Mary Cheh called the bill "historic" and said that it "will place the District of Columbia at the national forefront in efforts to reduce greenhouse gasses and achieve 100 percent renewable electricity" after the mayor signs it.

Gov. Cuomo expands on 100% carbon-free goal for N.Y.
New York will completely break from carbon-generating energy sources by 2040, said Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday. The pledge is supported by the New York Public Service Commission's Clean Energy Standard, which includes goals like sourcing 50% of the state's electricity from renewable energy by 2030.
