Report: Average term for wind PPA in Q3 was 13 years
The average length of power purchase agreements with wind farms fell from 13.5 years in the second quarter of 2019 to 13 years in the third, according to LevelTen. In a survey of 33 wind companies, 24% said they expect competition and the expiration of tax credits to have the greatest effect on PPA prices in 2020.

Siemens Gamesa to supply 3 Chilean projects with turbines
Siemens Gamesa has secured contracts to supply three wind farms in Chile with a combined capacity of 359 megawatts with turbines. Siemens Gamesa signed supply deals for 640 MW worth of wind farms in the country in its fiscal year ended Sept. 30.

Cubico Sustainable launches 600-MW wind, solar project in Mexico
Cubico Sustainable Investments has achieved operations at a 600-megawatt project in Mexico that features the 250-MW Mezquite wind project and a 350-MW solar array. It has two other wind farms under development in the country.

Calif. county going it alone to become 100% renewable
Humboldt County, Calif., is taking its plans to source 100% of its electricity from renewables by 2030 into its own hands, considering microgrids and other options that Redwood Coast Energy Authority Executive Director Matthew Marshall says could serve as a model for other areas. The plan calls for offshore wind to account for 43% of its energy mix by 2030.

N.Y. PSC green lights 316-MW lithium-ion battery project
The New York Public Service Commission has approved the development of a 316-megawatt lithium-ion battery project in Long Island City, with the first stage expected to launch in 2021. The project is expected to help Consolidated Edison curb fossil fuel use and bring more wind and solar into the electric grid.

Scottish team sees slower-than-expected growth for floating wind
The world may have an installed floating offshore wind capacity of 4.3 gigawatts by 2030, contrary to earlier forecasts of 12 GW to 15 GW by that time, according to the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. While floating wind can benefit from offshore wind's supply chain and momentum, some projects aren't coming to fruition and companies may underestimate permitting challenges, it says.

The Senate voted 53-41 to keep the Trump administration's replacement for the Clean Power Plan, the Affordable Clean Energy plan, in place. Democrats got the vote to the floor via the Congressional Review Act.
