Wind is advancing Facebook's sustainability agenda, exec says
Facebook has confirmed a new 15-year, 139-megawatt power purchase agreement with EDP Renewables North America's 200-MW Headwaters II Wind Farm in Randolph County, Ind. The agreement helps advance Facebook's regional sustainability agenda, which includes "finding new renewable energy projects on the same power grid for all of our facilities," Director of Global Energy Bobby Hollis says.

Grid operators nationwide reported a high degree of stability as heat waves swept the country last month, despite the fact that many of them are increasingly reliant on renewables. Observers say the experience indicates renewables don't impede grid resiliency.

Invenergy, Novartis enter 12-year PPA for Texas wind farm
Invenergy has signed a 12-year power purchase agreement with Novartis for 100 megawatts of output from its Santa Rita East project under development in Texas. "As more and more companies turn to renewables to support sustainability goals and control energy costs, Invenergy has been leading the way with more than 1,540 contracted megawatts for corporate customers over the last three years," Invenergy Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Jim Shield notes.

Pattern Development, A Renewable America begin work on largest wind farm in N.M.
Pattern Development, an affiliate of Pattern Energy, has partnered with A Renewable America and has broken ground on a 221-megawatt project that will be the largest wind farm in New Mexico. "The Grady Wind facility represents an important step in New Mexico's evolution as a major renewable energy producer. As wind and solar energy development grows, New Mexicans will reap the economic benefits," said Adam Renz of Pattern Energy.

Xcel Energy orders Vestas machines for 200-MW project in Minn.
Vestas Wind Systems has won a contract to supply Xcel Energy with 184 megawatts worth of its V120 2.2-MW turbine series in 2-MW operating mode. The Blazing Star wind farm in Minnesota will have a total capacity of 200 MW.
