Demand for wind will continue after PTC phaseout, exec says
The wind energy Production Tax Credit phaseout is driving wind development in the US, but the trend will likely continue once the mechanism is gone, says Northwest Energy Coalition Communications Director Sean O'Leary. "Even unsubsidized wind power is now at or below, in some cases, the cost of natural gas," O'Leary adds.

Report outlines how Va. can increase role in offshore wind
Virginia could develop a strong pipeline for offshore wind supply by focusing on workforce development, soliciting relevant companies and by establishing a Virginia Office for Offshore Wind, according to a report from BVG Associates. "Virginia has a clear opportunity to act as a leader in driving the development of the US offshore wind industry," says Gov. Ralph Northam.

Enel Green Power North America has kicked off operations at the 320-megawatt Rattlesnake Creek project in Nebraska and the 300-MW Diamond Vista site in Kansas. Both projects have power purchase agreements in place.

LG Electronics arranges clean energy deals for 5 US sites
LG Electronics USA has joined RPD Energy's Purely Green program, arranging renewable-energy certificates and wind-power supply deals for five manufacturing sites in Illinois, New Jersey and Texas. "RPD Energy and Hudson Energy created a unique structure that made it possible for LG to buy wind power on short-term contracts for these five distribution centers with economical pricing," LG Senior Vice President of Public Affairs John Taylor says.

New sPower office launches in Seneca County, Ohio
SPower has launched a facility in Seneca County, Ohio, that will help it interact with locals regarding its proposed 212-megawatt Seneca Wind farm. If approved, the project would inject an estimated $56 million into the county over its 30-year lifetime.

Phoenix Wind taps Vestas to repower Texas trio
Vestas has won a contract to repower three wind farms in Texas with a total capacity of 359 megawatts recently acquired by Phoenix Wind Repower. The Trinity Hills, Sherbino Mesa II and Silver Star wind farms' Clipper machines will be replaced with V110 2.2-MW turbines from Vestas.
