Opinion: Trump can grow renewables, US economy simultaneously
President Donald Trump can grow the US economy and renewables by supporting policies that encourage innovation and provide a stable environment for investments, writes Charles Donovan, director of the Center for Climate Finance and Investment at Imperial College Business School in London. "US businesses will doubtless suffer if their competitiveness in the global clean energy race is set back by policies that put them on the sidelines," he writes.

Mass. lawmakers propose 100% renewables by 2035 target
Three state lawmakers have proposed a bill that would require Massachusetts to source 100% of its total electricity needs from renewables by 2035. "It signals to the country our commitment to long-term solutions in meeting the very real challenges of climate change," said bill co-sponsor and state Rep. Sean Garballey.

Analysis: States, corporations will propel US renewables
State-level clean energy goals and support from corporate America will continue to drive renewable energy development in the US during the tenure of President Donald Trump, according to this analysis. Impax Asset Management Global Head of Marketing David Richardson said that none of the 29 states with renewable fuel standards in place have backed away from their targets.

Neb. city council OKs PPA with Prairie Hills
The Grand Island, Neb., City Council unanimously approved a power purchase agreement with Prairie Hills Wind for 50 megawatts of output from a project under development near Callaway, according to the council. City Administrator Marlan Ferguson said the city has been seeking deals with wind farms for several years.

Fred Olsen Ocean and Teekay Offshore have formed a new joint venture to develop a new vessel for the offshore wind industry. Composites institute, industry leaders to partner on blade research

The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation in Knoxville, Tenn., has teamed up with Arkema and other groups on a new thermoplastic composite research initiative for turbine blades. IACMI said blade manufacturers may be able to cut production costs and increase recyclability by using thermoplastic materials.

Danish energy minister prepares to promote wind in US
Danish Minister of Energy, Power and Thermal Lars Christian Lilleholt is preparing to travel to the US with the goal of promoting wind development among state legislatures. Report: Northern Ireland added 165-MW installed wind capacity in 2016
Northern Ireland added a record-breaking 165 megawatts of installed wind capacity in 2016, pumping about $70.6 million into its economy, according to the Northern Ireland Renewables Industry Group. The report said that Northern Ireland is home to total installed renewable energy capacity of roughly 1 gigawatt.

Commissioners from North Carolina's Pasquotank and Perquimans counties spoke with state House Speaker Tim Moore on Tuesday, asking him to allow the Amazon Wind Farm US East wind farm to begin operations. The commissioners said that the project isn't a threat to national security and would, instead, benefit the state's economy.
