Perry: Energy Dept. weighing costs of coal, nuclear bailout
The Energy Department is evaluating how much it would cost to prop up the nation's declining nuclear and coal-burning power plants, says Energy Secretary Rick Perry. Despite ongoing backlash from grid operations, renewables groups and other entities that assert a bailout is unnecessary, Perry continues to argue that cost shouldn't matter because grid resiliency is a matter a national security.

Renewable energy accounts for 22% of US power generation
The rise of renewable energy in the US continues, with renewable sources accounting for 22% of the country's power generation from January to April of 2018. Coal usage in electricity generation declined to 27% during that time frame, and natural gas accounted for 31%.

Wind provides rural farmers with reliable income, says Colo. landowner
Wind is a boon to rural farmers in Colorado, says Kochis Farms owner Jan Kochis, one of many area farmers who hold land leases to house turbines from Xcel Energy's Rush Creek Wind Project. "This is a cash crop because whether it hails or rains or whatever, we'll have supplemental income," Kochis says.

Ameren Missouri debuts new 100% renewable energy-buying option
Utility Ameren Missouri has secured regulatory approval for the Renewable Choice Program, an initiative that allows commercial and industrial buyers to acquire 100% of their electricity from renewables. "We know customers across Missouri are looking for more choices, control and greater flexibility. This program is one of the ways Ameren Missouri is meeting those needs," notes President Michael Moehn.
