You can pick and choose the nonprofit where you wanna volunteer based on your interests, and you don't even have to know how to swim. Drowning in options. Wanna work with animals, kids, or out in the forest? There are volunteer opps to match what you love. Helping nix worldly hardships. Screw altruism - giving back makes you feel good. Ideal Bite's most memorable team volunteer day had us hauling extremely heavy rocks in Muir Woods…surrounded by beautiful redwoods and cute forest rangers. Check with your HR manager - some companies let you volunteer on their clock. Idealist and Volunteer Match - big databases of volunteer opportunities. Taproot Foundation - org that hooks up skilled volunteers, from financial analysts to graphic designers, who wanna donate their talents pro bono. EarthDay.gov - check out government-backed volunteer activities. Just a few places that can generally use your help: local animal shelters, beaches, food banks, homeless shelters, libraries, parks, senior citizens' centers. Earth Day is the third-most activity-inspiring holiday in schools, after Christmas and Halloween.
