Does the idea of a sweltering-hot summer afternoon sound almost good these days? Not so fast, speedy. Check out Heat Wave, a new play at Uptown’s Pegasus Players based on the book by Eric Klinenberg that examines Chicago's 1995 hot spell, an event that claimed 700 lives over five days and startled climate-change naysayers. Hit the thea-tuh to appreciate how this co-production with Live Bait Theater looks at the disaster from varied POVs, including city officials, medical staff, and neighborhood characters. And (if we may say so…) with global warming on the rise, Heat Wave is a sensitive reminder of why it’s key to keep moving toward smart cooling and conscious energy consumption. No need to be a hot-head after all. |
