BNEF: G20 countries increased wind, solar production 70% in 5-year period
The 19 countries and EU that make up the G20 increased their installed renewable energy capacity 70% over a period of five years, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. The report said that the countries sourced about 8% of their total electricity from wind and other renewables in 2015, compared to 4.6% in 2010.

Interior Dept. confirms N.C. offshore wind leasing round
The Interior Department has confirmed that it will hold an offshore wind leasing round for 122,405 acres of space off the coast of North Carolina in a zone dubbed the Kitty Hawk Wind Energy Area. "With the completion of a successful lease sale, North Carolina will move closer to obtaining substantial contributions to the region's energy supply from offshore wind," said Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Director Abigail Ross Hopper.

Opinion: Va. is slowly making progress on climate change
Virginia has been slow to embrace renewables as a means to curb climate change but is beginning to catch up with projects like Apex Clean Energy's Rocky Forge wind farm, writes Jessica Greene, a climate organizer with the Virginia Conservation Network. "Renewable energy can be used to reliably meet any emissions reduction requirements, and the Clean Power Plan's goals will further drive the transition to a clean energy economy, creating tens of thousands of clean energy jobs along the way," she writes.

Vt. PSC clears path for Iberdrola's Deerfield project
The Vermont Public Service Board has signed off on a deal between Iberdrola Renewables, which is changing its name to Avangrid Renewables, and the Agency of Natural Resources that will give the developer the right to break ground on a 30-megawatt wind farm that has been delayed for several years. Company spokesman Paul Copleman said that the company plans to begin construction this year for a 2017 start date.

Apex: Proposed project in N.C. is safe, will benefit landowners
Apex Clean Energy's Timbermill wind farm under consideration near Elizabeth City, N.C., would meet zoning requirements and contribute more than $500,000 per turbine in land leases to landowners over a 30-year period, according to Project Manager Don Giecek. The 104-turbine Amazon Wind Farm is under construction in the same area.

Wind energy is an effective way for rural farmers in South Dakota to source new revenue and should be embraced as such, writes Erik Johnson. He argues that policies like the Paris climate accord make the transition to clean energy sources, like wind, inevitable.

Analysis: Trump's plan to revive coal is harmful, unrealistic
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's energy plan to revive coal is unrealistic given the industry's gradual decline in recent years and the rise of clean energy sources, like renewables and natural gas, according to this analysis. Observers say Trump's proposal could also be harmful for coal workers because the public is focusing more on his unlikely promises than finding viable solutions for the issue, like transitioning former coal workers to other industries.

Is new Mass. offshore wind policy workable?
Whether Massachusetts' new policy on offshore wind and hydropower is realistic and how long it will take to go into effect are a few of the questions discussed in this piece. Observers say the law, which supports the state's goal to curb its greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2020, would encourage the rise of new clean energy sources, but could take a decade to be fully implemented.

USFWS Eagle Conservation Program will help populations flourish
Recently there has been a lot of confusion about the impacts of wind power on eagle populations. Much of this stems from a misunderstanding about newly proposed changes to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Eagle Conservation and Management Program, established in 2009 under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Here's a detailed look at what the proposed rule will and will not do.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life -- think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.
