Analysis: Wind is slowly gaining in Southeast
Wind has become a mainstream energy source in the US but has only recently begun to gain footing in North Carolina and other southeastern states, according to this analysis. American Wind Energy Association Senior Director of Research Michael Goggin said the region has plenty of strong wind, but that it's located at high elevations, and the industry has had to wait for turbines large enough to reach it.

Tax credits, low interest and 3 other reasons to invest in renewables

ConEdison pursues PPAs for 3 wind farms with Northwestern Energy
Consolidated Edison Development is taking over a complaint started by Juhl Energy Services claiming that Northwestern Energy is legally required to sign power purchase agreements with a trio of wind farms that qualify for the Public Utilities Regulatory Policies Act, according to the company. The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission will review the rate agreement and hear the case in April.

BP Wind considers plan to upgrade up to 200 US turbines

BP Wind Energy is considering upgrading as many as 200 of its turbines located within the US -- a move that the company says could add up to 400 megawatts of installed capacity across its pipeline. CEO Laura Folse said the project would also enable the company to take advantage of the wind energy Production Tax Credit, cut costs and better compete with natural gas.

EnBW signs turbine, foundation supply deal with Siemens
Siemens Wind Power has won its first-ever deal to supply a project with turbines and foundations, according to the company. Siemens said that it has agreed to supply EnBW with 71 SWT-154 7-MW machines and foundations for its 497-MW Hohe See offshore wind farm in the North Sea.

Sempra Energy imports output from Mexican wind farm
Sempra Energy has begun importing 100% of the output from the 47-turbine, 1.2-gigawatt Energia Sierra Juarez wind farm in Mexico through a 1.7-mile, cross-border transmission line. Mexican energy expert and Greenberg Traurig partner Robert Downing said that Mexico's renewable energy industry has been booming for the past two years and that he expects the trend to continue.

Enbridge acquires 50% interest in EnBW offshore wind farm
Enbridge has purchased a 50% interest in EnBW's Hohe See offshore wind farm off the coast of Germany, according to the company. The project is expected to have a total installed capacity of nearly 500 MW.

Reps. Reed, Thompson reintroduce ITC extension bill for distributed wind
Reps. Tom Reed, R-N.Y., and Mike Thompson, D-Calif., have reintroduced a bill that, if approved, would extend the Investment Tax Credit for small-scale wind and other clean energy projects. Distributed Wind Energy Association Executive Director Jennifer Jenkins praised the legislation, adding that "support for distributed wind power grows America's small businesses and supports the growth of US manufacturing jobs."
