AWEA: Wind is America's "new cash crop"

Wind, which accounted for more than 20% of all electrical generation in Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, North Dakota and South Dakota last year, is "a new cash crop" in the US, the American Wind Energy Association said. "Wind is now cheaply and reliably supplying more than 20% of the electricity in five states and is a testament to American leadership and innovation," said CEO Tom Kiernan.

Acciona to supply Enbridge with 81 turbines
Nordex's Acciona WindPower has agreed to supply Enbridge with 81 3.075-megawatt turbines for its 249-MW Chapman Ranch project in Texas, according to the company. Acciona said the deal includes a five-year service and maintenance contract.

Vestas wraps up turbine installation in Kenya
Vestas has installed the last of 365 V52 850-kilowatt turbines at the 310-megawatt Lake Turkana project in Kenya, the company said. It added that the project is expected to supply about 15% of the country's total electrical needs.

Taaleri plans $600M expansion in North America
Finnish firm Taaleri has unveiled plans to spend about $600 million growing its wind portfolio in North America over the next several years. "We already have the capital to invest, so we can move quickly when we identify suitable projects or project portfolios," CEO Juhani Elomaa said.

Atlantic Wind proposes up to 125-turbine wind farm in N.Y.
Atlantic Wind is seeking approval for its Mad River Wind Farm, which, if approved, would be built in New York's Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties. The company said that the project could feature up to 125 turbines and have an installed capacity up to 350 megawatts.

Brookfield to acquire SunEdison's TerraForm Global
Brookfield Asset Management will purchase SunEdison's TerraForm Global and a 51% stake in TerraForm Power for about $787 million and $622 million, respectively, according to the companies. TerraForm Global controls about 952 megawatts of installed wind and solar capacity globally.

Analysis: Minn. residents are benefiting from low-cost clean energy
The cost of clean energy is falling across the country, and Minnesota continues to be a national leader, providing its residents with low-cost electricity and other benefits, according to a report. Business Council for Sustainable Energy President Lisa Jacobson praised Minnesota for its long-term investments in clean energy, adding that the model teaches lawmakers how clean energy can benefit the environment and economy at the same time.

Avangrid Renewables hosted an informational session for its proposed North Ridge wind farm in Hopkinton and Parishville, N.Y., on Tuesday. Communications Manager Paul Copleman said the company is in the process of informing the community about the project, which could feature up to 40 turbines.

Ark. lawmakers introduce bill to stop Clean Line transmission project
Six national lawmakers from Arkansas, including Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark., and Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., have introduced a bill seeking to stop Clean Line Energy Partners' Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project. "The Plains & Eastern Clean Line is a pro-jobs, pro-consumer, pro-environment public energy infrastructure project that will help create a secure energy future for the country, and we are ready to get to work," said Clean Line President and founder Michael Skelly.
