Recent clarifications to the federal production tax credit rules for wind energy offer an opportunity for owners of aging wind projects to repower and qualify for 10 years of tax credits on the electricity output from the repowered turbines. In 2016, approximately 23% of all operating projects are at least 10 years old and consist of turbine technology deployed in 2000 or later, making them potential candidates for repowering consideration. However, there are technical, financial and legal aspects of repowering that are unique to repowering in comparison to new constructed projects. DNV GL and Chadbourne & Parke have come together to offer this webinar designed to help attendees better understand the practical issues that will have to be addressed by anyone planning to repower an existing wind farm. Gain practical advice on: - Repowering scope and qualification thresholds
- Technical considerations unique to repowering and extended life
- Permitting and environmental considerations
- Window of opportunity for tax credit qualification
- Determination of retained value
- Impacts of credit ramps
- Safe harbor provisions
