Kern County, Calif., has some 4,581 utility-scale turbines with a combined capacity of more than 4,000 megawatts, making it the leading county nationwide in terms of installed wind capacity, according to a Washington Post analysis of the new wind-tracking database out from the American Wind Energy Association and other partners. California's Riverside and Alameda counties rank second and third.

Report: Bulk up US supply chain to absorb offshore wind costs
Ramping up the US supply chain for offshore wind will drive down the cost of development and help the industry take off as tax credits wind down, according to a study from the Business Network for Offshore Wind and French banking group Societe Generale. Developing a strong financial market is the next step in the industry's evolution, the report says.

Opinion: Current technology can fight climate change
Utah and the rest of the world already has the technology to fight climate change and should use low-cost energy sources like wind and solar and other clean energy resources to tackle the issue, write Sarah Wright, executive director of Utah Clean Energy, and Todd Stevens, managing director of RenewableTech Ventures. Utah only sources 11.6% of its total energy from renewables and should act now to increase that figure and create jobs, they argue.

Opinion: N.H. city should adopt 100% renewables goal
Concord, N.H., should adopt a proposed 100% by 2050 renewables goal because it will benefit the city both economically and environmentally while also saving taxpayers money, writes Rob Werner, a city councilor and chairman of the Concord Energy and Environment Committee. "As the state capitol of New Hampshire, Concord should continue to take a strong leadership role in moving toward a clean energy future, providing greater control over our energy destiny and driving the economic benefits," he writes.
