Three offshore wind project and policy announcements in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Jersey will add at least 5 gigawatts of offshore wind energy in the next decade. "With today's landmark decisions, Massachusetts and Rhode Island are ready to pioneer large-scale offshore wind development that will light the way for our industry and nation," said Tom Kiernan, CEO of the American Wind Energy Association.

Nearly half Xcel supply to Texas, N.M. could be from renewables by 2022
Almost half of Xcel Energy's electricity in Texas and New Mexico could come from renewable resources by 2022, according to a plan by Xcel Energy. About 24% of the company's energy resources are renewable, and the company plans to install another 1,240 megawatts of wind generation.

Road improvements underway near Ill. wind farm
The second phase of road improvements near Radford's Run Wind Farm, located in Macon County, Ill., are underway and should take about eight weeks to finish, according to E.ON officials. The project includes 80 miles of road improvements at a cost of $20 million to E.ON.

Norwegian wind farm complete
The 112.2 megawatt Egersund onshore wind farm in Rogaland, Norway, is complete, and a ribbon cutting was held to mark the occasion. The project includes 33 Senvion 3.4M 114 turbines and is the German company's first project in Norway.

    Comment period for New York Bight wind area extended
    The comment period for offshore wind energy development in the New York Bight region was extended from May 29 to July 30 by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. The bureau is also asking for information and nominations for wind power commercial leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf in the New York Bight.

    China's new energy rule addresses waste
    New guidelines from China's National Energy Administration addresses the 12% of wind power and 6% of solar energy wasted last year. The guidelines ask companies to put priority on cross-regional wind power bases that deliver electricity to different regional grids.
