AWEA supports bill to help veterans access clean energy jobs
The wind industry hires 72% more veterans than the national average and the American Wind Energy Association supports the passage of the Energy Jobs for our Heroes Act of 2018, which would increase veteran access to wind and other clean energy jobs, says AWEA Vice President of Federal Affairs Bree Raum. "This legislation will help us welcome even more of our nation's heroes into the American wind energy workforce," she says.

Land-based wind will remain king in Texas, says Iberdrola CEO
Iberdrola will continue to pursue land-based wind instead of offshore wind in Texas because the state has huge wind resources -- especially on the Western Plains -- that can be developed at a lower rate than offshore wind, says CEO and Chairman Ignacio Galan. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas estimates the state has 33,000 megawatts of new wind capacity are either under consideration or being developed.

Opinion: Businesses are leading the way on sustainability
Businesses are filling the gap left by the federal government when it comes to advancing sustainability and combating climate change, writes Suzanne Shelton, president and CEO of Shelton Group. Shelton argues that Americans want more federal action on climate change and that the government should realize people care more about the impact of sustainability -- not partisan divides.

EIA: 86% of planned wind farms came online last year
The US wind industry expected to add 6.9 gigawatts of installed land-based wind capacity in 2017, and although 86% of that total came online, 792 MW were delayed and another 155 MW were canceled, says the Energy Information Administration. The report attributes the delays or cancellations to a variety of factors, such as faster installation times, reduced costs and changes in support mechanisms.

Opinion: It's time for Cleveland to pledge 100% renewables
Cleveland is known for having some of the worst air quality in the nation, but could finally turn the tide by joining the Sierra Club's Ready for 100 campaign and pledging 100% renewables, writes campaign coordinator Jocelyn Travis. "We can envision a healthy, thriving Cleveland -- and we can demand it start with a transition to 100 percent clean energy, as soon as today," she writes.
