Corporate renewable energy PPAs to soar in Q4
The fourth quarter of 2018 is expected to see a surge in corporate renewable energy power purchase agreements, with the deals announced in October alone already surpassing those for all of the third quarter, writes Heather Clancy. Cargill, Iron Mountain, Walmart, Microsoft and Royal Caribbean have confirmed PPAs in Q4.

Analysis: Green economy is coming to Midwest manufacturing hubs
Midwest utilities such as American Electric Power, DTE Energy and Ameren are moving away from coal-burning power plants in favor of low-cost, emission-friendly renewables -- proving that a clean energy economy is feasible even in the nation's manufacturing footholds, Benjamin Storrow writes. University of Michigan researcher Sarah Mills says the switch is also providing farmers that site projects with important revenue streams.

AWEA's Sloan: Consumer preference continues to drive Texas wind
Consumer demand continues to be a major driver for wind energy in Texas, American Wind Energy Association Vice President of State Affairs Susan Sloan said on the sidelines of the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Alliance's 2018 GridNEXT Conference. "People are still interested in seeing more wind and using more wind," Sloan says.

Wyo. siting panel OKs 47-turbine wind project
The Wyoming Industrial Siting Commission cleared the way for Invenergy's Uinta Wind Energy to move forward with a 47-turbine, 161-megawatt project slated for Uinta County, Wyo. The project will likely begin operations in 2020 and is expected to generate $137.7 million in excise tax.

Ameren to advance 400-MW wind farm in Mo.
Ameren secured regulatory approval Wednesday to advance the 400-megawatt High Prairie Wind Farm, which is expected to begin operations in 2020. The project is part of the 700 MW to 800 MW of new installed wind capacity Ameren needs to meet the state's 15% by 2021 renewables goal for utilities.

Orsted, Taiwan universities sign meteorological MoU
Orsted has entered into a memorandum of understanding with National Taiwan University and several other schools to improve meteorological science for the wind industry. Orsted says it plans to use an advanced radar system to learn more about Taiwan conditions for wind energy.

EIA: Renewable generation is on the rise in the US
Wind, solar and other renewables accounted for more than 18% of electrical generation in the US during the first two-thirds of the year, according to the Energy Information Administration. Wind accounted for 6.6% of all generation.

Mass. port readies to become hub for US offshore wind
One of the nation's busiest ports -- the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal in Massachusetts -- is poised to become a major hub for the East Coast offshore wind industry, creating hundreds of jobs and stimulating the local economy in the process. New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell says Massachusetts will serve as an example, showing how offshore wind and fishing can complement each other.

Stronger RPS would benefit Nev., says Eolus exec
Voters in Nevada should support Ballot Question 6, a measure that would increase the state's renewable portfolio standard from 25% to 50% by 2030, writes Lucas Ingvoldstad, director of business development and governmental affairs at Eolus North America. "Renewable energy standards continue to reduce our carbon footprint and improve our environment, but clean energy production also creates good-paying jobs and strengthens our economy," he writes.
