EPA updates mapping tool to feature renewable energy data
The Environmental Protection Agency has updated its interactive RE-Powering Mapper tool to show data on formerly hazardous sites and their potential for wind, solar and other forms of renewable energy development. The map includes landfills, mines and other sites that are or once were contaminated.

Orsted secures 20-year PPA for Conn. offshore wind farm
The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority has signed off on a 20-year power purchase agreement between utilities Eversource and United Illuminating and Orsted US Offshore Wind's Revolution Wind offshore wind farm. "We're ready to make major investments in our local workforce and in the Port of New London to ramp up this project," Orsted US co-CEO Jeffrey Grybowski said.

Minnesota Power arranges 20-year PPA with Minn. project
Utility Minnesota Power secured regulatory approval Thursday to move forward with a 20-year power purchase agreement for 250-megawatts of output from Tenaska's Nobles 2 project. During the hearing, the state public utilities commission also granted Tenaska a site permit and certificate of need for the wind farm.

Vestas to supply US wind farm with 56 machines
Vestas won a contract to supply an undisclosed developer with 56 V136 3.45-megawatt turbines for a 202-MW wind farm in the US. Vestas expects to begin delivering the units, which will be optimized to 3.6 MW, in the third quarter of next year.

Analysis: Offshore wind lease prices soar in US
Offshore wind leases in the US have become significantly more expensive in the past few years, with US Wind acquiring a site off the coast of New Jersey in 2015 for $1 million and selling it this year for $215 million -- a 21,000% increase, Chris Martin writes. General Counsel Salvo Vitale says US Wind will invest the profit in developments off the coast of Maryland and South Carolina.

ERCOT: Texas wind farms produced record power Fri. morning
Wind farms in Texas generated 19,168 megawatts of electricity at 12:07 a.m. on Friday, beating the previous record of 17,920 MW, according to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. ERCOT's area accounts for 90% of the state's electrical generation and has an installed wind capacity of more than 22,000 MW.
