Duke Energy Carolinas issues call for wind, renewables
Duke Energy Carolinas has issued a call for wind, solar and other clean energy projects that would add 750,000 megawatt-hours of electricity to its service area. Observers say that the added capacity would help the company comply with a 2007 North Carolina mandate requiring that 12.5% of the company's total retail sales come from clean energy sources by 2021.

Opinion: Cherokee Nation must embrace wind energy
The Cherokee Nation should embrace wind and clean energy development because it benefits the environment and Oklahoma's economy and forms a basis for the ongoing stewardship of the land, writes Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker. "Wind energy is pollution free, doesn't require fuel or water, and the land beneath the wind farm will still be used for agricultural purposes," he writes.
