Iron Mountain signs PPA with Amazon Texas project
Enterprise information management services firm Iron Mountain has signed a long-term power purchase agreement for 10% of the output from the 253-megawatt Amazon project in Texas, according to the company. The firm said the deal would provide enough wind energy to power all 75 of its properties in Texas and a few in other states.

GE plans $1.65B LM Wind buyout
General Electric has agreed to purchase LM Wind Power in a $1.65 billion deal, according to the companies. "We'll be more local, have more flexibility and knowledge in turbine design and supply, and more ability to innovate and reduce product costs, while improving turbine performance," said GE Renewable President and CEO Jerome Pecresse.

GE plans 2 new turbine service facilities in Brazil
General Electric has agreed to build two new turbine service facilities in Brazil that will support wind farms operated by Casa dos Ventos and other companies in the region. The projects "will enable the companies to strengthen their relationships and provide local response much faster for both scheduled and unscheduled service needs," said GE.

Report: Global installed wind capacity could hit 500 GW by year's end
The world's total installed wind capacity could surpass 500 gigawatts by the end of 2016, according to the World Wind Energy Association. WWEA said that the global installed wind capacity hit 456.5 GW at the end of June, providing about 4.7% of the world's total electricity needs.

Neb. college prepares workforce for wind boom
Northeast Community College in Nebraska has been filling the wind industry's growing need for skilled workers since the program's launch in 2011. "The wind energy program at Northeast is helping to support that growth by providing students with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to readily fill those maintenance and operational positions," said Shanelle Grudzinski, associate dean of applied technology.

Residents urge Mont. utility to add more renewables to grid
About 100 people representing nonprofit group 350 Montana rallied in front of NorthWestern Energy on Monday asking the utility to embrace wind and solar projects. Montana Environmental Information Center Clean Energy Program Director Brian Fadie said that the utility should spend $1.3 billion it would allocate to 13 new natural gas plants on renewables instead.
